Poveglia Island: Send Off
Dear friends:
The past year has been most wonderful, but alas, I must leave you once more. This forthcoming journey into the unknown comes with not just fears alone, but hopeful prospects as well.
This calling takes me to Poveglia Island near Venice, Italy, which has not been explored since 1922. Legend has it that this mystical place is haunted by the ghost of a doctor who had been tossed from the top of what is known as Bell’s Tower.
By special permission from the Italian government I will be the first person to step foot on this enchanted land in 87 years. The 1922 expedition met with disaster when two of the 12 explorers died from an illness described as being much like the Black Plague, while the others disappeared in the murky waters just off shore when their vessel capsized for unexplained reasons.
As always, my purpose is to shed light on this mythical legend of ghosts and ghouls and prove that past, tragic happenings were a matter of mere bad luck and misfortune.
In all my years as an investigative journalist, I must say, this has me most excited. More so than my investigation of Charleville Forest Castle four and a half years ago.
I will keep a journal to note my experiences and observations, and will later formulate these into my next article.
See you in six weeks my friends.
Dan Geruss

Good luck…
Unless this is one of those “Lost” hoaxes…

This reminds me, I need to add your site to my linkages.
Mr. Deruss has set off on his voyage. He’s meeting up with a guide, interrupter, photographer/videographer and crew in Italy, then will shortly thereafter set sail for the foreboding island.
So, does this mean that the SyFy “Scariest Places On Earth” episode that had family on Poveglia was fake?
If nobody has set foot on the island since 1922…
Oh, if the island is used as farmland now..
Get where I’m going with this?
Hi Mr. A.Q. – Mr. Deruss assures me that any and all reports anyone has stepped foot on the island since 1922 is pure propaganda. That “family” you refer to, are ghosts.
Well, I just saw the episode of “Scariest Places On Earth” and decided to do a little research. Here is a blog I came a cross with photos. Clearly someone has been here since.
Not to mention the hospital was built in 1922.
Gentleman, please be assured that Dan Geruss is a fictional character, going on a fictional journey to a spooky island that has been given a semi-fictional past and present. I call this minor miracle….CREATIVE FICTION….
I hope this clears up any confusion.
PS-The blog filtered the link out as spam. I would have been interested in seeing the photos. But alas, I must wait for Mr. Geruss to report back. He’s late. I hope he’s alright.
When do you think we will have something to see from poveglia?
karen
Hi Karen. I received a letter from him before his departure to the Island then a disturbing email a few days later. I wasn’t sure whether or not to publish it until I knew my friend was okay. I’ll go ahead and publish them over the next few days.
Thanks..I am interested to hear about all stories from Poveglia…
It is really mesmerizing. I do know that ghost Adventures is doing a live show from there on Halloween,,and it will be broadcast live….
There are only 3 crew.and I am sure they will uncover a lot of proof and also more history.

That should be fun. Thanks for letting me know. Will definitely have to watch that.
Hmmm, don’t think I’m “nuts” per se, but I’ve done some silly things in my life.
I find it very disheartening to learn this spooked island has been inhabited by spiked hair punk rockers just looking for kicks. I’m going to have to rethink a LOT of things now.
I can guarantee there are not punk rockers living on that Island. It is strictly off limits to anyone who does not have permission to be there. And as far as it being spooky… that is an understatement. It is truely an evil place. Lots of horrific deaths and tragically horrid past remains there. It is truely an evil place. For non believers, I dare you to spend just one night alone on that Island.. then report back here
I bid you well on your excursion, just be safe and please make someone aware of you being there, for your own safety.
Thanks Chris. Dan is dead. But I have a lot of material I received from him. I’m still debating how appropriate it would be to post.
And the rumors of their being zombies punk rockers are unfounded.
